Healing from “The Virus”

It was a great 5 days in Miami. Every day was full of sunshine and great food! The views of the beach and the water were pretty amazing as well. Since we traveled during the pandemic, we strived to be super careful. We wore our masks wherever we went and hand sanitized all the time. Also, we avoided any areas with too many people. The airport experience and plane ride left much to be desired, but alas we were back home! Cozy in our space. Then… my husband started sneezing and had a sore throat the very next morning. I was just fine for 2 days, until I started getting an intense sinus headache along with fatigue. My energy level completely deserted me. I rested that evening and went to bed early. That night I tossed and turned all night. The headache kept me awake. I usually don’t suffer from headaches, maybe only once a month during my cycle. This one was a beast!! So much so, I awoke @ 3am to drink a pain killer. That helped me sleep the rest of the night. Poor hubs, couldn’t sleep that night either. His sore throat was very painful. When I awoke I found him reading. He had been up since 5 am! After a cup of ginger tea, my energy started dwindling… and I went back to bed. I slept from 10am until 1 pm. The rest of the day I was wrapped in a blanket, with an eternal headache and a fever that peaked at 102. Nothing too severe, but my body was definitely fighting something. I was at least happy to know that my body was “fighting”. It was doing what it was designed to do. Needless to say, we had a pretty lousy two days. We tested with at home tests and also via a PCR test and we indeed were positive for C0V!D. How did we support our bodies through it? 

We treated the sore throat with warm water, lemon and sea salt. Gargles in the morning and evening. After one full day of this, the sore throat was gone. To reduce drying out of our sinuses, we kept 2 humidifiers going all day and through the night. Certain mornings I added peppermint essential oil to help with breathing. I treated my fever & headache with acetaminophen and my sinuses with over the stove peppermint steams. To help our bodies attack the viral load, we started drinking 2 oregano oil pills per day. It’s known antiviral properties have helped us so much in the past. To build up our immune system we took Vitamin C, Vitamin D, Magnesium, B12 vitamins, Zinc and a ginger bomb daily. A good friend told me about the ginger bomb and we definitely incorporated it. 

Ginger Bomb: 
2 tbsp fresh ginger (peeled & chopped)
2 tsp Turmeric powder
2 tbsp apple cider vinegar
1 pinch black pepper
2 fresh squeezed lemons
1 peeled apple
1 cup water
(Blended together)

*This should last you about 2 days. I drank a shot’s worth daily. 

After 2 days our symptoms were gone and our energy started rising. We were in quarantine 11 more days after our last symptom, but in that time, my indoor allergy to dust mites and dry air worsened my sinuses. So to treat my inflamed sinuses I added 2 more tablespoons of apple cider vinegar to the ginger bomb shot and drank that twice a day. I also did a sinus steam with 2 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar in the water. (Careful to be far enough away from the steam. You never want to burn your sinuses!) This helped bring down the inflammation in my sinuses right away. 

Being home and unwell for a period of time causes us to stay sitting or lying down, so some stretch & mobility sessions at home kept blood flowing and toxins moving through my lymphatic system. I wanted the toxins to be released. Later I was able to go for brisk outdoor walks, which I felt continued to help the healing process. I also drank 2-3 cups of ginger tea daily to keep my body warm and to ingest good amounts of fluid. One bit of advise that I feel is beneficial is to allow your body to rest. I’ll say that again “ Let your body rest”. The world continues and our mind keeps up with it, but our body is ailing. Pause. Rest. Reset. Your body will heal more completely when you give it the time and rest it deserves. It’s doing a big job. Don’t interfere with it. Assist it. 

Eight days after our positive test, we tested again.. and the virus was completely out of our system. We were negative. I am grateful for the holistic measures the earth gives us and a little traditional pain medicine as well. Your body is strong. Never forget that! Assist it, and let it do the rest. I truly hope you can find comfort in using some of these methods. Wishing you health & happiness even through the rough patches.
